We are looking for graduate students from other universities

Two main research topics, “Control Mechanisms of Genome Expression” and “Chemical Biology for Drug Development” are ongoing in our lab. For more specific information about the research, please see the Research page. We have high aspirations to conduct world-class research ― sometimes research leading the world. In the world, you will find many laboratories with abundant funds and many excellent post-doctoral researchers. It is hard for a small lab like ours to compete on a global scale, but let’s gather our wisdom and courage and explore new fields of research together. We are welcoming students from other universities who wish to join our lab. Science Tokyo has two types of graduate school entrance examinations: one requiring both Japanese and English language skills and the other requiring only English language skills. Please note that language proficiency is critical in either case. For those who wish to apply, please contact Yamaguchi (yamaguchi.y.8072@m.isct.ac.jp) in advance. The university also frequently holds briefing sessions at the school and course levels, so you may wish to attend these. Lab tours are available at any time, so please contact us by e-mail or other means to make an appointment.

Advancement to the Doctoral Program

The two years of the master’s course is too short to understand the real excitement and interest of research. As we will show below, it is a misconception that those who puruse an academic carrer path enter a PhD program, and PhD holders have their own strengths. PhD is a must-have especially if you want to be active on the global stage of research. If you step into the world of research, why don’t you consider entering a PhD program? (We leave the decision to go on to higher education to each student.)

In accordance with the university’s policy, there is practically no tuition fee for the PhD program, and various financial support programs are available for PhD students.

Career Opportunities for Graduates

Almost no one gets a job with a bachelor’s degree. Almost all of them go on to master’s programs, and some of them go on to PhD programs.

As for career paths after graduation, some of the students who have obtained a PhD will take a post-doctoral position in order to pursue an academic career path. Some graduates have gone on to post-doctoral positions at the National Cancer Center and Kyoto University in Japan, and Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania overseas.

Other graduates who have completed their doctoral and master’s programs will be employed by companies. The research focus of our lab matches the pharmaceutical, medical, food, and cosmetics industries, but some students choose to work in IT or trading industries. The following is a partial list of employment opportunities over the past 10 years or so.
